Nick Diaz seeks judicial review of suspension

Brian Stann: ?I think if I get two big wins in a row I can get right back to a fight that means something.?
Middleweight Brian Stann?s stock took a hit over the weekend when the hard-hitting 185er came up short on the scorecards at UFC 152 in a bout with Michael Bisping. The stumble was Stann?s second in his last three outings and removed him from any possibility of immediate title-contendership.
While Stann is certainly down at the moment, he certainly isn?t out. The 12-5 fan-favorite spoke to Fuel TV after the conclusion of his fight where his confidence remained high despite the disappointing loss.
“Dana White came back after the fight and told me he thought I won the fight,? began Stann, referring to the UFC President?s support of his belief he?d done enough to earn the judges? favor. ?Of course, I am going to be bias – I was in there and I thought I won. I have to take an analytical view. I knew it was going to be close, but I thought I won the fight.?
Stann: “I want to be world champion. Period.”
As far as his immediate future, Stann acknowledged he wouldn?t be headlining any lineups down the road but could be back at the top by mid-2013 if all goes according to plan.
“I don’t think I go back to fighting the up-and-comers,? he explained, adding, ?I think if I get two big wins in a row, I can get right back to a fight that means something.?

Jon Jones earns Submission of the Night at UFC 152 for finish of Vitor Belfort
With the stand-up skill-set of UFC 152 headliners Jon Jones and Vitor Belfort it seemed likely their rumble would result in a stoppage, though one of the strike-based variety rather than related to BJJ. However, when things were said and done it was Jones who emerged with his hand raised after locking in a beautiful Americana on the overmatched Belfort.
Jones? success marked his fourth consecutive defense of the light heavyweight belt and also netted him Submission of the Night honors (as well as an extra $65,000 for the distinction).

Knockout of the Night, and an equally large check, went to Cub Swanson after he dropped highly-touted youngster Charles Oliveira in the opening round of their main card clash. The win was Swanson?s third straight TKO.
Meanwhile, Evan Dunham and TJ Grant both brought home $65,000 more than expected after their preliminary pairing was named Fight of the Night. The 155ers fought valiantly throughout the tilt, exchanging stiff blows from start to finish with a bit of BJJ in the mix to boot.

Anderson Silva, Stephan Bonnar to meet as UFC 153 is put ?back on track?
As USA Today reported and Yahoo! Sports confirmed with UFC president Dana White, Silva will move up to light heavyweight to fight Stephan Bonnar in the three-round main event. Teixeira will now face fellow Brazilian Fabio Maldonado. Antonio Rodrigio Nogueira was filming a commercial with Silva when the UFC called about the Bonnar fight. He offered to fight and will now face Dave Herman.
The UFC was forced to scramble after injuries threatened another card. UFC 151 was recently canceled when Dan Henderson was injured light heavyweight champion Jon Jones turned down a bout with Chael Sonnen. Jones' refusal to fight caught White's ire so he was pleased to find his other champions would step up when needed.

"This is old-school UFC. A card is in jeopardy, but guys that are world champions and superstars stepped up and jumped in and saved the card. This is why the fans love this sport and why we went on a 12-year run without canceling an event."
Bonnar getting the call to fight Silva is a surprise as so many middleweights are clamoring to fight for the belt. His last fight was a decision over Kyle Kingsbury at UFC 139. Bonnar is best known for his bout with Forrest Griffin at the first finale of "The Ultimate Fighter." Their thrilling bout is credited for helping build the UFC into the company it is today.
Since that bout in 2005, his career has been up and down. At 14-7, he doesn't have the resume to earn a title shot, but his willingness to take a fight on short notice and the fact that Silva's belt is not on the line created the perfect storm for Bonnar to get the big fight.
Though he's dominated at middle weight for years, Silva has fought at light heavyweight before. In 2009, he knocked out former light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin in the first round. He knocked out James Irvin in 1:01 in 2008.
Silva and Nogueira both fought on UFC 134, the first Brazilian card since 1998. They both won by knockout in front of a raucous crowd. It's not surprising to see them both want to take on fights in front of their home crowd again.

What does a fighter look like? (PHOTOS)
I've often heard the phrase, "He/she doesn't look like a fighter!" This comes up especially before women's fights, when Ronda Rousey's cover girl looks are cited as a reason to be shocked that she can rip your arm off. I hear it about Georges St-Pierre, who could easily find another career on a runway. UFC president Dana White brought it up recently when he criticized Roy Nelson's mullet, beard and belly.
But the thing about MMA is that outside making weight the day before a fight and passing a ton of medical tests, there are no physical requirements to step in a cage. While fighters look like this:
They also look like this:
They come in sizes large:
They are from all over the world and represent every color in the rainbow.
And yes, Dana, sometimes they even look like this.
There is no one way to look, act or sound like a fighter. The diversity within mixed martial arts is something to be celebrated, not criticized.
