Anthony Pettis duking it out with Donald Cerrone on January 26

A bout with huge implications on the contendership picture in the UFC?s lightweight division appears to have materialized after months of rumors relating to the potential match-up. Though still not official, a credible report has surfaced stating Anthony Pettis and Donald Cerrone will scrap on January 26.

The bout is expected to take place in Chicago at UFC on FOX 6.

MMAJunkie was first to break news of the likely pairing.

Pettis is coming off back-to-back wins including a knockout of Joe Lauzon but hasn?t seen action since February due to injury. He holds an overall record of 15-2 including victories over Jeremy Stephens, Shane Roller, Danny Castillo, and Benson Henderson.

Smack Talk Continues Between Cerrone-Pettis Camps

The 19-4 Cerrone has also been on a tear as of late, finding success in eight of his last nine fights. Among the notable opponents he?s beaten are the likes of Jamie Varner and Melvin Guillard.
