The Nevada State Athletic Commission has released UFC 155 fighter payouts. Leading the $1.261 million payroll were main event fighters Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez. Main card fighters Yushin Okami and Jim Miller were the next highest paid fighters on the card. As always, these numbers do not reflect full fighter salaries including sponsor payouts, performance bonuses, or PPV payouts.

UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson will fight Nate Diaz on Fox on Saturday, but before his bout, he showed off some of his signature moves. Henderson's favorite thing during a fight is to give his opponent "a sad face."

Now that their yearlong stint airing on MTV2 is over, Bellator is focused on their move to Spike and Thursday nights. Starting on Jan. 17, Bellator will air on Thursday nights at 10 p.m. ET with a premiere featuring title bouts between Michael Chandler and Rick Hawn and Pat Curran vs. Patricio Freire.
Bellator CEO and Spike president Kevin Kay talked to Cagewriter with smiles on their faces as they discussed what this move can mean to the tournament-based promotion. Kay, who worked with the UFC from it's debut of "The Ultimate Fighter" Spike, said it's the night that makes the most sense for the show.
"TNA Impact is there. We launched "The Ultimate Fighter" after WWE. I wouldn't say wrestling fans are always MMA fans, but there is crossover. It's one of the best lead-ins we can give Bellator. I like 10 o'clock because research says that's when guys get control of the remote. For all those reasons, it felt like the right place."
Bellator and Viacom, the parent company of Spike and MTV2, have been partnered since 2011. However, because of Spike's previous deal with the UFC, Spike can't air live MMA on the network until 2013. Bellator has been on MTV2 as a placeholder. Rebney had hoped all along for Thursdays.
"In the back of my mind, I was always hoping we would settle on Thursdays -- that's really a Spike decision as to where we can generate the biggest audience -- but that was optimal. If we can trail Impact, one of the biggest shows on Spike, and they have a crowd so analogous to ours, and on a Thursday night which is a great night for television, we're going on every cylinder."
But nothing in television is perfect. Both Kay and Rebney acknowledge there could be problems.
"The only real challenge is if fights go long. Bellator 85, we have two championship fights. If they both go five [rounds], they could conceivably go past midnight. I don't have a problem going a little past midnight, but if we start talking about 12:30, we'll probably lose ratings there," Kay said.
And Rebney knows it might be a bit tough on international fans. He said international fans will get the chance to watch shows, but watching them live "may make it a tough day at work." Still, Thursday makes the most sense. Leading with impact, that will feature Mo Lawal, who also fights for Bellator, will open the door to new fans.
"The Thursday spot is everything we want it to be. As Mo gets deeper into Impact and we get to do more with Dixie [Carter, the president of TNA) and her company, there's a lot of synergy and fun stuff we can do," Rebney said.

When Matt Brown gets into the octagon with Mike Swick at UFC on Fox 5 on Saturday, he'll be facing a fighter he was a fan of. Brown told MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani that after Swick appeared on first season of "The Ultimate Fighter," Brown sent him a message via the once-popular social network MySpace.
"He was the first fighter I really looked up to on 'The Ultimate Fighter 1.' I wrote him a message on MySpace, and I was real pissed when he never replied to my message. Was like, 'he's an [expletive.]"
He smiled at the idea that this slight serves as an incentive for him to win.
"That's my whole motivation for this camp. I didn't get a reply on My Space."
Brown appeared on the seventh season of "The Ultimate Fighter." He has put together an 8-5 record in the UFC since appearing on the reality show, and is riding a three-fight winning streak. Will Brown continue the streak this Saturday? Speak up in the comments, Twitter or on Facebook. (But not MySpace.)

Early in Benson Henderson's decision over Nate Diaz, questions began to pop up on Twitter.
"Did Henderson just punch Diaz in the thigh?"
And then he did it again and again. The thigh jab ended up being one of Henderson's effective moves. It turns out he borrowed the move from UFC bantamweight Alex Caceres. Henderson talked about it on Fuel's post-fight show.
"I actually planned that. I've got to thank Alex Caceres on that one ? he came up to the MMA Lab and he did it to me and it actually hurt. He's a 135-pounder, he weighs 150 pounds soaking wet, and he did it to me and it hurt me. I started using it and did it to my sparring partners and it hurt them. They asked me to stop because it hurt too much. It worked; I stole it from Alex and thank him very much. It was effective. You saw it against Nate Diaz and it was pretty effective. I'm always trying to add new tricks, work on my fundamentals, and get better and improve."
And that's what the best fighters always do. Georges St-Pierre added a killer jab to his repertoire before his championship win over Josh Koscheck. Anderson Silva's front kick against Vitor Belfort made one of the world's best fighters even scarier.
Henderson has been the champ since late February, but he has already figured out that to hold onto the belt, he has to grow and improve as a fighter.

Melvin Guillard and Jamie Varner staked a late claim to the UFC 155 Fight of the Night bonus with a bout that ended in a split decision. Varner won it on the judges' cards, 30-27, 27-30, 29-28.
Varner gained an edge early in the bout by tagging Guillard in the first round. Guillard showed good kicks, but couldn't escape Varner's takedowns for much of the bout. But the most frightening moment of the bout came late in the third round.
[Complete UFC 155 recap: Cain Velasquez mauls Junior dos Santos]
The two were scrambling on the ground for position when Guillard took Varner's back. Varner stood up, and with Guillard's head pointed to the ground, Varner slammed his opponent to the ground. Amazingly, Guillard was not knocked out or injured from the move. The fight ended seconds after, and the two embraced.
?This was a very emotional fight for both of us," Varner said after the bout. "After what happened a few weeks ago at the "TUF Finale" event, we were both ready to compete. I knew we would eventually get in the Octagon and squash our beef and I definitely feel that we did. I?m happy about my performance, I feel that I was able to dominate the fight wherever we ended up and I?m glad I got the win.?
Varner and Guillard were originally scheduled to fight during "The Ultimate Fighter" finale on Dec. 15, but illness kept Varner from the cage. Guillard was understandably upset about the delay, leading to trash talk.

As we mentioned last week, former UFC fighter Dennis Hallman lost his home the night before Thanksgiving to a fire. Luckily, no one was home and no one was injured in the fire that took six hours to put out. The MMA community has responded to help Hallman and his four children rebuild.
Fighter Benji Radach has put together a fund to help Hallman rebuild. 113 people have already donated to get the total over $10,000. To donate, click here. People have already contributed amounts ranging from $5 to $500.
Hallman has been fighting since 1996, and he told Sports Illustrated that the worst things he lost in the fire were irreplaceable items like pictures of his family and programs from his fights.
"That's the stuff that makes you want to cry when you think about it. At first, I was angry about it, but sitting there with my sons around me, I thought, I can't take any of that stuff with me to the grave," said Hallman.

UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz has suffered a major setback in his recovery from a torn ACL. He explained on "UFC Tonight" that the cadaver ligament that replaced his torn ligament was not completely healed when he reinjured his knee the day after Thanksgiving. He had surgery less than a week later, and will likely not be able to return to fighting until late 2013.
He was emotional when talking about how he reacted when he found out he would be unable to fight for an even longer time than he thought. His last bout was an Oct. '11 win over current flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson.
"The only way I can explain my emotions is to people out there who don't have to rely on their body for their money and their career is to say is the closest thing is when you've been dumped by the girlfriend you've been with for years and you love her, or something like that. Or if you lose a family member. I felt like I lost a family member."
Though the UFC has not talked about stripping him of the belt, he knows that the bantamweight division must keep moving in order to stay strong.
"It means everything to me to have [the belt], but I'm here to build the 135-lb. division. I have to look at myself as part of the bantamweight business. That being said, the bantamweight division has other fighters in it. It has to keep growing."
The interim belt, put in place to keep the division from being stagnant in Cruz's absence, will keep on keeping on. Interim champ Renan Barao will put his belt on the line against Michael McDonald in 2013. A date and place has not been set for the bout.

On Friday, Pat Barry and all of the fighters on Saturday's "The Ultimate Fighter 16" finale had one task to accomplish. They had to make weight. Even for a small heavyweight like Barry, it's the only thing on a fighter's mind the day before a fight.
Still, the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary could not be ignored. No matter a fighter's focus, he was still affected by a gunman taking out 27 people, including 20 children. Several of Saturday's fighters mentioned the shooting, and UFC commentator Joe Rogan somberly spoke of the tragedy before Saturday's broadcast. Barry's speech after knocking out Shane Del Rosario was particularly memorable. (Skip to the 2:00 mark.)

When Liz Carmouche steps into the octagon to fight Ronda Rousey for the UFC women's bantamweight belt, it will be a historic moment. Not only will UFC 157 feature the first UFC women's fight, it will also be the first time an openly gay fighter will fight in the UFC.
UFC president Dana White praised Carmouche, an ex-Marine, for coming out.
"There's a lot of gay athletes out there and athletes and actresses. It takes a brave person to come out and admit it because they're always afraid of what its going to do to their career or how people are going to treat them afterwards. I love what she did."
White came under fire in 2010 when he used a gay slur on one of his video blogs. He later apologized. When talking about Carmouche, he addressed his own reputation and shared his thoughts on same-sex marriage.
"I know I have the big ?homophobe' persona and people think I'm some homophobe. I'm the furthest thing from it. I think it's ridiculous it's 2013 and the government tells two people they can't marry each other. Who is the government to tell two people who say they love each other they can't be married? It's ridiculous."
Though it's not quite 2013, it's encouraging to hear White say not only that he supports Carmouche and same-sex marriage but that he hopes other fighters find the courage to come out, too.
Among the NFL, MLB, NHL and NBA, there are no active and openly gay players. Retired athletes, like basketball player John Amaechi and football player Wade Davis, have come out after they stopped playing.
However, athletes like Carmouche show that the tide is turning and athletes are more comfortable with not hiding their sexuality. Openly gay athletes like diver Matthew Mitcham and Natasha Kai have competed in the Olympics. More and more athletes are speaking out in favor of LGBTQ rights.

Nate Diaz is fighting Benson Henderson at UFC on Fox 5, and he has taken the idea "don't leave it in the hands of the judges" to a whole new level. He does not think he can win if it is put in the judges' hands.
"I don't think I've got a chance of winning any type of decision. So I gotta go out there and do what I can do to try and finish my opponent, try to be the better fighter and win the fight," said Diaz said to Inside MMA. "Either way, if it goes to a decision, I'm going to try to be the one outscoring, outpointing and outdoing him."
Winning by a finish is a pretty tough feat for Diaz to accomplish. Henderson has never been knocked out. He lost once by submission and once by a decision. The submission loss was in 2007. Since then, he's been in some tricky spots but hasn't tapped. In both fights against Donald Cerrone and in fighting Jim Miller, Henderson was memorably stuck in positions which seemed close to a submission. But instead of tapping, Henderson would give the thumbs up and went on to win all three fights.
Decisions in bouts with Henderson are also a likely occurrence. His last six fights were decisions, with five ending with Henderson getting his hand raised. Diaz isn't as successful in decisions, so you could see why he might be nervous. Of his seven losses, six are by decision. Only two of his 13 wins came via the judges' card.

The UFC's fifth appearance on Fox goes down on Saturday night, with one of the more stacked cards to air on the network since. What will come from the card? Read on.
Who will walk away with the lightweight belt? The biggest question of the evening goes to the main event. Benson Henderson will have the chance to show off his skills against someone other than Frankie Edgar. Diaz thinks he can't win a judges' decision, so will he be able to stop Henderson, who hasn't loss by a stoppage since 2007? Or will Henderson hold onto the championship?
Is this B.J. Penn's last stand? Penn is a legend in the UFC. His first fight was was in 2001 at UFC 31. He even dabbled with retirement until young buck Rory MacDonald called him out. Will Penn be able to stop the 13-1 MacDonald, or will the young fighter's star continue to rise?
Who will fight for the UFC light heavyweight belt after Chael Sonnen? Jon Jones is scheduled to put his championship on the line against Sonnen in April, after their season of "The Ultimate Fighter" airs. The bout between Maurico "Shogun" Rua and Alexander Gustaffson will decide who fights for the belt after Sonnen.
Will the next bantamweight star stand up? Men's bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz will be on the shelf for a while because of a reinjury to his knee. Renan Barao will put his interim title up against Michael McDonald. The next challenger may show himself on Saturday during Mike Easton vs. Raphael Assuncao.
Will fans tune in extra early on a Saturday afternoon? The Facebook prelims for UFC on Fox start at 4:20 p.m. ET. Prelims on FX (a change from when Fuel aired Fox prelims) are at 5 p.m. ET. The early start time is due to the Fox broadcast, which is expected to end in time for the 11 p.m. local news. It's a Saturday during the Christmas shopping season. Will it affect how many fans tune in for the early fights?
