"You'll see why so many Latinos fight, and it's not so much for the trophies or the medals; it's really out of necessity and one thing you can find on every corner in a hispanic town is a boxing gym, and that's why I started my foundation, El Saber Es Poder, because I wanted to change that to start promoting education in the inner cities," stated 3-time world champion Mia St. John, who talked about her foundation and the reasons why Latinos fight. Instant Replay to return to New Jersey MMA this Saturday

Instant replay review capabilities will return to MMA competition this Saturday in Atlantic City, NJ during the Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC) 43 card. Head of the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board Larry Hazzard instituted instant replay review capabilities during fights, years ago.

After his departure in 2007, however, New Jersey ceased with the practice. Now that Hazzard is back in the saddle in New Jersey, he?s brought back instant replay review with him for boxing and MMA contests.

?These are sports that are certainly subject from time to time, to errors, mainly by referees,? Hazzard told Cagewriter.

?These types of errors can have an impact on a bout. I think that unless necessary corrections are made, at the time, it?s just unfair to the fighters. These are individual sports, and the fighters don?t often get a second chance at big opportunities. After a kid works his or her butt off for several years, to finally reach that upper echelon where he or she are making good pay days, it?s unfair to them not to have the ability to correct costly official mistakes.

?I think that with instant replay, we will be able to make these corrections, if necessary, on the spot? It?s the fairest way to go in the 21st century.?

The first MMA card to have those capabilities under the re-institution will be the CFFC in Atlantic City, at the Borgata. The card will air live via pay per view on Go Fight Live, cable through InDemand, and through the promotion?s website.

The presence of television cameras is crucial to the use of instant replay review, because Hazzard says that the cost of the tool will be paid for by promotions, like the CFFC.

?This will mainly be used in pro fights, fights that are big enough to be televised,? Hazzard explained.

?Or, it?s going to happen if a promoter requests and pays for the cameras and monitors. The cost of this is going to be on the promoter. This is in it?s infant stages, and we?ll see how it goes as time goes on, but right now it will be in the events that want it.?

The decision to apply instant replay review capabilities once more on this Saturday?s particular Atlantic City event came just weeks ago. CFFC CEO Rob Haydak says the topic came up in conversation between he and New Jersey Athletic Control Board Counsel Nick Lembo a couple weeks ago, and the state made its decision soon after.

Welterweight champion Jonavin Webb (7-0) will defend his title in the main event of CFFC 43 against Lyman Good (16-3), this Saturday, and was told of the development only this week. ?I think I found out this week,? he told Yahoo! Sports.

?I think it?s a good thing, for certain.?

Webb, however, said that he was not sure when, exactly, instant replay review could occur during fights, or how the whole process is supposed to occur. ?I don?t really know, to be honest,? he said.

?I?m more concerned with getting punched in the head than that, though. I?m not too worried.?

How, exactly, instant replay review would or will work during fights seems to be a relative unknown to state regulators as well. Hazzard admitted that the program is still in development.

?It?s an additional tool for me, or a designate of mine to use during fights,? he said.

?I?m sure that there are certain fouls, or certain situations where it could help. Like, whether a fighter tapped out or did not tap out. These are things where, if a ref makes a mistake, we can correct it.?

Hazard says that he, or a designee will be watching fights on monitors and if they believe ?conclusively? that a referee has made a mistake through the use of instant replay, they will have the ability to change or reverse a call. ?It will have to be done in between rounds,? he detailed.

Hazard says that instant replay review will not be used for decisions that fighters may appeal and get a hearing on. ?It has to be done right there, in the moment,? he explained.

?If there?s anything that has the capability to impact a final decision, we can review and change upon review. It has to be conclusive, though. We are not going to be nit-picking referee calls. We are not going to have debates on issues. It has to be something we?re sure of. And, it?s not something we?re looking forward to using. We hope we never have to. But, it is a safe guard for the fighters? sake.?

With a loosely-defined set of circumstances where decisions can be reversed, and a very small window of time to not just review but put in effect a referee decision reversal (in between rounds, according to Hazzard), it would seem that New Jersey has a great deal of planning and process-construction yet to do with regards to instant replay review capabilities. However, the decision to even re-open the door to correcting perceived mistakes made during fights is encouraging, and it will be interesting to see how it plays out, and if other major states follow New Jersey?s lead.

UFC champ Georges St. Pierre details UFO encounter

For years, it was an open secret that Georges St. Pierre had some fears relating to what he suspected were alien encounters. The former UFC welterweight champ touched on some perhaps related matters during an interview awhile back on The Joe Rogan Experience, during which he spoke about unexplained time lapses.

Rogan, and this writer, would later go on to wonder out loud with concern if such experiences were related to the multiple concussions a fighter like St. Pierre had sustained over his fight career. No one will ever know for sure, but St. Pierre elaborated on another experience that he says he can't come up with an explanation for during an appearance on Chael Sonnen's great new You're Welcome podcast.

Check out the segment above, and listen to the full podcast here.

Sonnen asked St. Pierre,"I wanna know your opinion. Do we have aliens that have visited this country?"

"Rush" had this to say in response:

"I never talk about aliens," he said.

"I talk about non-identified flying objects. And if you don't believe me, one day I was in Albuquerque ... with Rashad Evans and [former UFC fighter and former wrestling coach for Evans and St. Pierre] Mike Van Arsdale, a fighter called Alejandro, he's a Mexican guy, and also Ali [Abdel-Aziz], I believe he managedFrankie Edgar. And we're all in the car ... in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on the highway, and we saw a UFO all together.

"I don't know what it was, but it's something that we cannot explain ... it came swift towards us and right away it changed directions and it disappeared."

Rory MacDonald's coach says he should wait for UFC title shot

Welterweight contender Rory MacDonald's head coach, Firas Zahabi, thinks it is high time his pupil gets a shot at the UFC belt. In fact, after MacDonald's TKO win last weekend against Tarec Saffiedine, the coach insists that "Ares" (18-2) should refuse to fight anyone other than the winner of Johny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler II, for the 170 pound title.

"How many more fights are on the table?" Zahabi asked in an interview with MMA Fighting.

"If you look at the top-10, who else would be eligible? Everybody's pretty much booked or [MacDonald] has beat. I don't see who's really out there who makes sense. I think the only thing that makes sense now is the winner of Hendricks and Lawler. I can't think of anybody else."

The 25 year-old Georges St. Pierre protege is on a three-fight win streak since losing a close decision to Robbie Lawler in their title eliminator match back nearly a year ago. Hendricks (16-2) and Lawler (24-10) will fight for the championship Dec. 6 in Las Vegas.

The two first duked it out in one of the nastiest, and closest slug fests in UFC history last March, for the then-vacant welterweight title. Hendricks earned the decision and has not fought since then, because of torn biceps.

Khabib Nurmagomedov: 'Anthony Pettis a playboy, not a champion'

Khabib Nurmagomedov has watched injured UFC champion Anthony Pettis closely the past year or so, and isn't impressed with what he's seen."I follow his Instagram, and I see every time he parties, and I think he?s a playboy," the Russian said in a recent interview.

"All my life I?m training hard. I?m training in mountains, I?m wrestling with bears, and all my life I?m training...He?s the champion, but he?s not a true champion."

Nurmagomedov is undefeated and has won twice since Pettis last fought, and won the UFC title. Since that time, Pettis has been out action with injuries.

He's currently set to defend the belt next against Gilbert Melendez. Injuries or none,Nurmagomedov doesn't believe a real champion should be able to go so long without defending their title.

"He hasn?t had a defense," he said.

"He won the belt, yes, but he?s a paper champion. I think he?s a paper champion. Everyone knows I am the true champion. The next fight, I deserve a title shot. This belt is mine. If UFC says I have a title shot, it will be very good for me. It?s my big dream.?

Nurmagomedov will likely have to wait for a long while to fight for the title. Though, it seems clear he's trying to make up whatever difference may exist between where he's at and a title shot with talk.

Do you think he could give Pettis problems with his strong grappling? Let us know in the comments section.

UFC champ Ronda Rousey: ' I would rather die than lose'

UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is undefeated in her MMA career, and she intends to keep it that way. In fact, during a recent interview with Showtime, the "Rowdy" one said she'd rather die than lose a fight.

?I know that I would rather physically die than die inside from losing a fight. I remember every single loss of my career, but have forgotten so many of my victories," she said. ?It?s not that I?ve never lost; it?s that I?ve lost at the worst times, so I know what a loss is. That?s why I want to win so much more than these other girls."

According to the 135-pound queen, she's already psychologically faced that choice during fights and pushed through.

?There have been times during a fight when I thought I was going to die,? Rousey said. ?I thought to myself, ?I would rather break my neck than lose this fight.?"

The former two-time Judo Olympian has lost throughout her athletic career. If an MMA fighter is going to beat Rousey, however, she insists it won't be because she gave up.

?I will never tap out of a fight because I know the feeling of losing," she said. "I know that I would rather die than lose a fight.?

Rousey next defends her UFC championship in January against No. 1 contender Cat Zingano.

[VIDEO] Fan Art: Jose Aldo vs. Conor McGregor

You may have heard the name of a featherweight named Conor McGregor recently, and thought, "who is this quiet young man, and why isn't he getting all that much hype and attention?" Well, you should know that McGregor is none other than Ireland's next great MMA hope, and the man UFC president Dana White says will be next to challenge for the 145 pound title.

After just four fights, McGregor has managed to both look good in the Octagon against increasingly stiff competition, and garner a great deal of attention for himself with his feel-good trash talk, outside of it. White isn't the only one pushing for a McGregor title fight against champ Jose Aldo (who has to actually, you know, still beat Chad Mendes later this month in order to stay champ), as the above fan-made promo video shows.

A skilled fan calling themself JayBandit put together this pretty slick promo video for a hypothetical Aldo vs. McGregor showdown to take place, "Live at Croke Park." We'll agree that this is a bit hasty, but we also have to admit that the video is nicely done, cool, and has us hyped for that potential fight.

Firas Zahabi: 'I think Georges St. Pierre will return'

Don't get your hopes up too high just yet, but retired former UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre's head coach says that he believes GSP will eventually make a return to competition."I think so," Zahabi said, in a recent MMA Fighting interview.

"I think Georges cannot separate himself from MMA, from martial arts. I don't think he could. I think it's carved out a part of his psyche, I think he's done it since he was so young, I think it's who he is. It protected him in the school yard, it created him living. I don't think he could successfully separate himself from MMA."

That all said, Zahabi also explained that St. Pierre isn't back to doing martial arts training, since injuring his knee. According to the coach, "Rush" also has not made a decision himself about whether or not he'll ever fight again.

"He has no definite plans whatsoever, that's the bottom line," Zahabi said.

"That's not the answer everybody wants to hear, but it's the truth. No matter what anybody tells you, he still has not made up his mind."

St. Pierre will have a lot of recovery to go through before he is able to know for sure if and when he'll make a come back to the UFC. He has already accomplished pretty much all there is to accomplish in the sport of MMA, but it sounds like his friend and coach thinks the fighter will simply have trouble finding another identity and life style for himself.

Whatever the long-time 170 pound king decides, we hope it is for the right reasons. At some point in his life, even if it isn't now, he'll have to come to terms with a change of identity as he transitions to a world away from fight competition.

Ryan Ford: 'Ain't nobody gonna stop me come fight night'

World Series of Fighting Canadian welterweight champion Ryan Ford (22-4) grew up athletic, and with professional fighting all around him in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He had to wait until he was much older, however, to be allowed to throw any punches of his own.

"I always grew up around boxing because my dad was a Canadian lightweight champion and was ranked as high as No. 3 in the world, at one point," Ford told Cagewriter.

"So, boxing was always around. When I was in junior high school, I started wrestling. I was an athletic kid and I played every sport I could. But my mom really didn't want us to box so we didn't get to do the boxing, too much. Dad did show us how to hit pads and throw a punch, though."

Once Ford became an adult and a professional fighter himself, it ended up being in the newer combat sport of MMA, instead of boxing. His mom may not have approved of it, but Ford's father was also initially a bit dubious of his son's career choice.

"He had that old school boxing mentality of, 'What is this stuff?' " Ford laughs.

"After seeing a few of my fights he actually was like, 'OK.' I actually got into it. He saw that it isn't this crazy sport."

Once Ford's dad bought into MMA, he was eager to give his son pointers and advice. Sometimes, a little bit too eager, according to the fighter.

"Yeah, he gives me some pointers after fights with stand up striking. He's a boxing analyst," Ford says.

"But, It's changed. He used to box back in the '70s and '80s. A lot has changed between then and what we do now."

Ford has readily accepted the advice and game-planning ability of his head MMA coach Firas Zahabi in preparation for his fight against Jake Shields (29-7-1) Saturday night in Edmonton. Zahabi also prepared Georges St-Pierre for his 2011 UFC welterweight title defense against Shields, and so he knows the "American Jiu-Jitsu" specialist.

"Coach Firas set the game plan when Georges fought him, so I've definitely relied on his knowledge. Firas knows the game. He knows what game plans to use. At the same time, I'm a totally different fighter than GSP, so his game plan is different," Ford admits.

Ford respects Shields and all the savvy and experience he will bring to the cage against him, yet still believes this his own hunger to achieve what Shields already has will make him the more dangerous fighter.

"I believe in myself," he says.

"I believe in the hard work and dedication I put into the gym. Ain't nobody gonna stop me come fight night. Jake has been there before, done that before, whereas I haven't. I'm a lot more hungry than he is. Come fight night, he is going to understand."

Ford takes on Shields Saturday, Oct. 11 in the main event of a four-fight card airing on NBC Sports Network at9 pm ET/6 pm PT.

Chad Mendes on UFC champ Jose Aldo: 'I'm in his head'

UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo (24-1) claims he shoved #1 contender Chad Mendes (16-1) at a media event simply to promote their Oct. 25 title rematch, but the challenger believes there's another reason."I think that?s bull," Mendes said recently.

"[Aldo] lost his temper, he lost his cool and that?s never happened before. So he?s trying to backtrack and cover that up, like, we were just trying to sell the fight. If that was the case, if you were trying to sell the fight, you wouldn?t come out and say that afterwards. That was him backpedaling for sure."

Mendes may have lost via dramatic first round KO at the hands of Aldo the first time they met, but the Team Alpha Male fighter insists he's the one with the psychological advantage heading into the rematch."For me it?s basically me thinking I?m in his head, man," he continued.

"We?ve never seen Aldo do this with any opponent. I think he feels threatened in his head, which is right where I want to be. When you get into a stare-off and the guy shoves you or pushes you, it?s kind of funny to me. That?s our job, and that?s what we?re supposed to do. If you don?t want to be there, don?t do the damn stare down. It?s just funny to me to see him get frustrated and lose his cool."

In face of failed test, UFC's Cung Le denies PED use

It was revealed this week that UFC middleweight Cung Le tested positive for elevated levels of Human Growth Hormone (HGH) after his August fight in Macau. In a statement released to MMA JunkieThursday, however, Le denies undergoing the banned HGH treatment or taking any other banned performance-enhancing drugs.

?I was completed surprised at the results of my recent drug test...I was informed by the UFC that I passed my pre- and post-fight drug test, as well as the majority of the blood tests with the only abnormality being an elevated level of HGH being determined to be present. I tested negative for anabolics, stimulants, diuretics, masking agents and my testosterone levels were within World Anti-Doping Agency and Nevada State Athletic Commission Approved limits a total of three times over two urine tests and a blood test collected both before and after my fight," Le said in his statement.

The fighter went on to say that he believes that some mistakes in the testing could be to blame for his levels of HGH testing as too high.?I have been informed that there are many possible reasons for a level of HGH to exceed what is allowed unknowingly and my doctors are researching those possibilities, which may include a much more serious health concern," he said.

"I have also been informed about the unreliability of the current HGH testing that exists and it?s high rate of inaccuracy."

The 42 year-old concluded by categorically denying that he took any banned drugs, which could have led to his HGH levels exceeding allowable limits.?I want to reiterate to my fans and the fans of mixed martial arts everywhere that I did not take any performance-enhancing drugs or anything that would cause my natural level of HGH to exceed normal levels," he claimed.

To read more of Le's statement, click here. Le's manager Gary Ibarra went into more specifics about what he says the fighter's team has learned of alleged irregularities in the way the UFC tested Le.

?Upon our independent review of the laboratory procedures when testing for PED?s, it has been clear that the possibilities for incorrect test results are many. We were informed that the laboratory was advised to use the WADA approved rules and procedures when conducting the testing that they administer, yet the lab in Hong Kong contracted to do the testing was not WADA approved, which was surprising since there was a WADA approved lab available in Beijing, China," he said.

?The blood sample was collected post-fight when the natural HGH levels are the least reliable as the body in an attempt to heal itself will naturally release more HGH, but even more of a concern is that the more reliable and WADA required test for HGH known as the IGF-1 test was never conducted on the sample. When we contacted the UFC to request that this more reliable test be conducted, we were informed that this was not possible as the lab only retained the sample for a week following the fight. WADA regulations require that samples are to be frozen and held for 10 Years, so that they can be re-tested in the event of a challenge.'

"WADA rules state that when testing for HGH, the lab must use the 'Isoform Differential Immunoassays' or ?the Isoforms Test,' a procedure which requires the IGF-1 test be performed.

?Again, this test was not performed by the lab and was could not subsequently be performed as the sample had been destroyed. The WADA regulations also state that:

?Since the total levels of HGH secreted into circulation vary naturally, are widely fluctuating over time and may be influenced by several factors not associated with doping, it is practically impossible to develop an anti-doping test based simply on the measurement of increased total HGH concentrations.?"

Ordinarily, the UFC is subject to athletic commission regulation for its fighters and events. However, the UFC now often holds events abroad where there is no substantive athletic regulation, and so it then self-regulates.

Le's August fight against Michael Bisping in Macau was the main event of one such event. The UFC's double standard of saying it only holds events domestically where it can be regulated for things like performance-enhancing drugs, while also claiming to regulate itself in order to hold events in un-regulated territories like Macau has long been a philosphically dissonant position.

Begining now with Le's case, we may now see situations where fighters challenge the UFC's dubious self-regulation arrangement. According to Ibarra, not only did the UFC not follow ordinary guidelines for testing HGH levels, HGH level testing itself is a difficult enterprise to undertake.

?There is a reason why HGH is still not tested for in all major sports leagues, the tests that exist are unreliable and present many opportunities for inaccuracy for a multitude of reasons," he claimed.

"As was stated in the UFC?s press release in regards to our client, the results of the testing they conducted showed an elevated level of HGH, but as WADA states, the possibility for incorrect results are more than probable when testing for elevated levels of HGH especially when a non-WADA approved lab is used."

Le was initially suspended by the UFC for nine months for his failed drug test. After criticism of that punishment as too lenient, however, the UFC decided to change the fighter's suspension to a year in length - in an apparent double punishment for the same infraction.

We will keep you posted with more details in this story as they develop.

Chan Sung Jung out of MMA for two more years to complete military service

Top UFC featherweight contender, and former world title challenger Chan Sung Jung will step away from MMA competition for the next two years in order to fulfill the mandatory military service requirements of his native South Korea, according to reports. The 27 year-old has already not fought in over a year - since losing a competitive and gutsy bout to champion Jose Aldo in Aug. 2013 at UFC 163 - to injuries.

The fan-favorite was set to return to action this month, but he was injured again this past summer and was forced to pull out. Now, "The Korean Zombie," is set to lose two more years from the prime of his career.

According to reports, Jung posted the announcement Monday on his official Facebook page, in Korean. Cagewriter contacted the UFC for comment, but they had none at time of publication.

Our partners over at MMA Fighting followed up Jung's manager Brian Rhee, who confirmed the reports."He feels bad for his fans and thankful to the UFC, Dana and the Ferttitas for letting him be a professional fighter," Rhee said.

"He's going to rehab, train and comeback stronger than ever after the end of the 2 years."

According to CBS News, South Korean "able-bodied men" must serve in the nation's military for at least 26 months before reaching the age of 30. South Korea, of course, borders a brutal dictatorship to the North.

North Korea has over a million troops, and South Korea reportedly has a military just over 600,000 large. Jung's birthday is listed as March 17, 1987, which means he is just at the deadline for when he could begin his military service and still abide by South Korean conscription law.

The aggressive fighter has become beloved across the world for his non-stop and skilled style. Before losing to Aldo, Jung had won and finished three straight UFC fights.

Jung's life is set to change rapidly, and in more ways than one, this month. The fighter will not only reportedly begin his military service Oct. 20, he and his wife are also expecting their first child this very week.

Jose Aldo says UFC fighters deserve better pay

UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo's confidence seems to extend outside of the Octagon, and into the business world of MMA. "Scarface" seems just as quick with a criticism of UFC brass (well, at least since president Dana White began to inexplicably bash his dominant and entertaining champ) as he is with one of his nasty leg kicks.

With a title defense this Saturday in his home of Brazil against Chad Mendes(14-1), Aldo recently once more spoke up about what he views as he and other UFC fighters' relatively meager pay to take part in one of the world's most extreme sports. When Brazilian outlet Globo asked Aldo (24-1) - by far, the UFC's longest reigning champion - in a recent interview if he deserved higher pay from the UFC, he said, 'yes,' but also that he isn't the only one.

"Not only me, but also other athletes deserve it," he said.

"We [fighters] give a lot to the company, and I think it is not as valued as it should... Nowadays the company is very large and athletes are very devalued."

Aldo says that, while the UFC pays fighters well when things are going well, the promotion is fickle and not particularly loyal once things go a bit rougher. "If you're fighting well, you are valued by the company," he explained.

"But you're fired if you lose three straight fights."

Fighting for purses makes for an unpredictable, and difficult-to-budget, life. Aldo says that fighters like himself have no problem laying it on the line in the sport they love, but he wishes that the labor got a bigger share of the UFC's all-time high riches.

"We do not earn a monthly salary, so we have to keep fighting," Aldo said.

"We try to always give the maximum in training to get in there and fight, thus raising millions for the company. We also want to have part of these millions."

Do you think that exciting, dominant UFC champs like Aldo should get a higher percentage of the UFC's revenue? Or, do you think the increasing wages, over the years, are about right, given how new the UFC is, and all their expenses?

Let us know in the comments section.

Conor McGregor, Jon Jones are big stars among FightPass subscribers

FightPass, the UFC's digital streaming service, is three-quarters of the way through its first year. It's already been a boon to the UFC because it gives it its own network that protects it from the vagaries of the fast-changing world of television.

As more television viewers cut the cord with their cable connections and opt for services such as Apple TV, Roku and streaming via apps on smart TVs, the UFC is positioned to take advantage.

All of the fights in UFC history are available on FightPass, though there is a delay for fights that were just on Fox or FoxSports, and pay-per-view bouts are held back briefly (By the way, someone at the UFC should change the delay on the PPV bouts, because in boxing, the replay of a PPV is always aired the following Saturday).

But after nine months, Yahoo Sports requested the UFC data on the most watched individual bouts and cards in several different categories. Several interesting trends emerged after sifting through the data.

Conor McGregor. (Getty Images)The most intriguing is that in the 10 most-watched UFC fights ever on FightPass, none occurred any earlier than UFC 158 on March 16, 2013. All 10 of the most-watched fights occurred in the nearly 19 months since that show.

There are many older bouts in the most-watched non-UFC events on FightPass, where Fedor Emelianenko dominates as much as he did as when he was ruling PRIDE as its heavyweight champion. Of the 10 most-viewed non-UFC bouts on FightPass, Emelianenko competed in five.

By far, the most watched bout on FightPass was the light heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson in Toronto on Sept. 21, 2013.

That bout was considered the greatest fight in UFC history by many. It was also a close bout with many swings in momentum that left fans with a split opinion about the outcome.

Jones rallied from behind to win on the scorecards, but there are a large number of fans who believe that Gustafsson was cheated out of the decision. That, and the quality of the fight, are probably why it's No. 1.

Here is a look at the full Top 10, through Oct. 6, per UFC research:

Top 10 most-watched fights:

  1. Jon Jones-Alexander Gustafsson, Sept. 21, 2013, Toronto, UFC 165
  2. Gilbert Melendez-Diego Sanchez, Oct. 19, 2013, Houston, UFC 166
  3. Anderson Silva-Chris Weidman, July 6, 2013, Las Vegas, UFC 162
  4. Georges St-Pierre-Johny Hendricks, Nov. 16, 2013, Las Vegas, UFC 167
  5. Benson Henderson-Anthony Pettis II, Aug. 31, 2013, Milwaukee, Wisc., UFC 164
  6. Conor McGregor-Max Holloway, Aug. 17, 2013, Boston, UFC FIght Night 26
  7. Cain Velasquez-Junior dos Santos III, Oct. 19, 2013, Houston, UFC 166
  8. Benson Henderson-Rustam Khabilov, June 7, 2014, Albuquerque, N.M., UFC Fight Night 42
  9. Conor McGregor-Marcus Brimage, April 6, 2013, Stockholm, Sweden, UFC Sweden 2
  10. Johny Hendricks-Carlos Condit, March 16, 2013, Montreal, UFC 158

The top 10, which White said he was not aware of until a reporter read him the list, did not surprise the UFC president. Only three of McGregor's fights were on FightPass at the time of the counting since UFC 178 was not up because of a pay-per-view hold. Two of those three made the list.

"I've been telling everyone this, but maybe this will give me evidence to back up what I've been saying, and that is that Conor McGregor is a huge star," White said. "People are interested in what he's doing, they want to see him fight and they're going to FightPass to check him out."

McGregor is also the most searched fighter on FightPass.

Joining him on that list are many of the UFC's elite names:

  1. Conor McGregor
  2. Jon Jones
  3. Nick Diaz
  4. Anderson Silva
  5. T.J. Dillashaw
  6. Daniel Cormier
  7. Rory MacDonald
  8. Ronda Rousey
  9. Mark Hunt
  10. Cain Velasquez

The biggest surprise on that list is not only that McGregor sits atop it, but that Rousey is as low as she is on the top 10 and that big names such as Royce Gracie, Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture and Tito Ortiz aren't a part of it.

"It's funny how fast things have changed," White said of the absence of many of the UFC's biggest names from the most-searched list.

When it comes to non-UFC bouts, it's no surprise that the names of Emelianenko and Diaz are littered throughout the top 10.

The full list of most-watched non-UFC fights is as follows:

  1. Nick Diaz-Paul Daley, April 9, 2011, San Diego, Calif., Strikeforce
  2. Benson Henderson-Anthony Pettis I, Dec. 16, 2010, Glendale, Ariz., WEC 53
  3. Fedor Emelianenko-Mirko FIlipovic, Aug. 28, 2005, Saitama, Japan, PRIDE
  4. Nick Diaz-Takanori Gomi, Feb. 24, 2007, Las Vegas, PRIDE
  5. Nick Diaz-Frank Shamrock, April 11, 2009, San Jose, Calif., Strikeforce
  6. Fedor Emelianenko-Mark Hunt, Dec. 31, 2006, Saitama, Japan, PRIDE
  7. Fedor Emelianenko-Kevin Randleman, June 20, 2004, Saitama, Japan, PRIDE
  8. Fedor Emelianenko-Mark Coleman I, April 25, 2004, Saitama, Japan, PRIDE
  9. Urijah Faber-Jose Aldo, April 24, 2010, Sacramento, Calif., WEC 48
  10. Fedor Emelianenko-Kazuyuki Fujita, June 8, 2003, Yokohama, Japan, PRIDE

The UFC has acquired fight footage from numerous promotions which it has made available via FightPass. One of its most recent acquisitions in that regard is the all-women's Invicta promotion and it has clearly been a wise move.

All eight Invicta shows appear in the top 10 of the most-watched non-UFC events.

The full list of most-watched non-UFC cards is as follows:

  1. Invicta FC 8: Waterson vs. Tamada, Sept. 6, 2014, Kansas City, Mo.
  2. Invicta FC 6: Coenen vs. Cyborg, July 13, 2013, Kansas City, Mo.
  3. Invicta FC 7: Honchak vs. Smith, Dec. 7, 2013, Kansas City, Mo.
  4. Invicta FC 5: Penne vs. Waterson, April 5, 2013, Kansas City, Mo.
  5. Invicta FC 1: Coenen vs. Ruyssen, April 28, 2012, Kansas City, Mo.
  6. Stirkeforce: Diaz vs. Daley, April 9, 2011, San Diego, Calif.
  7. Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg, Jan. 29, 2011, San Jose, Calif.
  8. Invicta FC 2: Baszler vs. McMann, July 28, 2012, Kansas City, Mo.
  9. Invicta FC 4: Esparza vs. Hyatt, Jan. 5, 2013, Kansas City, Mo.
  10. Invicta FC 3: Penne vs. Sugiyama, Oct. 6, 2012, Kanas City, Mo.

It's a small slice of information, and you can make of it what you wish. Rousey's absence on any of the lists is interesting, particularly her failure to rank on the most-watched non-UFC fights. Her Strikeforce bout with Miesa Tate did great ratings on Showtime at the time.

Frank Mir wants third Brock Lesnar Fight in UFC

Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir (16-9) has been ambivalent about whether or not he'd return to MMA competition after a long career and losing four straight. In a recent interview, however, Mir said he wants to fight again, if he can get a rubber match with fellow former champ, the retired Brock Lesnar (5-3).

"If Lesnar comes back, I think it will be good for MMA," Mir told Globo.

"He is still popular, people still know who he is and this brings more attention. He and I have a win each in the times we face.A new fight between us would be very welcome.I'd love to welcome him in the UFC."

Lesnar has been retired from MMA competition for years, and is back in professional wrestling. There have been rumors floating that Lesnar's WWE contract may be running out soon, and that the former NCAA wrestling national champion might be interested in returning to fighting.

Mir submitted Lesnar in the wrestler's UFC debut back in 2008. The following year, however, Lesnar brutalized Mir and won via TKO.

Lesnar ended his MMA career with two straight losses, and retired in late 2011. Mir has not fought since Feb., when he lost his fourth straight bout, to Alistair Overeem.
