Rory MacDonald's coach says he should wait for UFC title shot

Welterweight contender Rory MacDonald's head coach, Firas Zahabi, thinks it is high time his pupil gets a shot at the UFC belt. In fact, after MacDonald's TKO win last weekend against Tarec Saffiedine, the coach insists that "Ares" (18-2) should refuse to fight anyone other than the winner of Johny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler II, for the 170 pound title.

"How many more fights are on the table?" Zahabi asked in an interview with MMA Fighting.

"If you look at the top-10, who else would be eligible? Everybody's pretty much booked or [MacDonald] has beat. I don't see who's really out there who makes sense. I think the only thing that makes sense now is the winner of Hendricks and Lawler. I can't think of anybody else."

The 25 year-old Georges St. Pierre protege is on a three-fight win streak since losing a close decision to Robbie Lawler in their title eliminator match back nearly a year ago. Hendricks (16-2) and Lawler (24-10) will fight for the championship Dec. 6 in Las Vegas.

The two first duked it out in one of the nastiest, and closest slug fests in UFC history last March, for the then-vacant welterweight title. Hendricks earned the decision and has not fought since then, because of torn biceps.
