Jon Jones and Rashad Evans make it official at UFC 145 weigh-ins (VIDEO)
Jon Jones and Rashad Evans got nose to nose as they faced off after they weighed in before their UFC 145 bout. Jones usually will look over the head of his opponent during a face-off, but looked Evans right in the eyes as Jones' brother, Baltimore Ravens player Arthur Jones, yelled. Both men were booed as they spoke briefly to the crowd.
The rest of the weigh-ins were uneventful. John Makdessi came in overweight and will pay 20 percent of his purse to Anthony Njokuani. Read on for complete results, thanks to the good people at MMA Junkie.

Jon Jones Won?t Be Fighting at UFC 149
Shortly after it was officially announced that Jones would be taking on Henderson his next time out, UFC president Dana White revealed that the two would likely be meeting at the impending UFC 149 event. Those plans no longer seem to be intact, as Jones' manager today revealed that his client will be looking to remain on the shelf for a bit longer.

Hominick, Yagin, Browne and Rothwell pocket UFC 145 bonuses
The bonuses for UFC 145 were given to main card fighters, who put on a more exciting show than the preliminary bouts. Mark Hominick and Eddie Yagin's bloody decision was awarded Fight of the Night. Ben Rothwell's quick knockout of Brendan Schaub won Knockout of the Night, while Travis "Hapa" Browne won Submission of the Night for his arm triangle of Chad Griggs. Each bonus gave the fighter an extra $65,000.

Dana White: Mark Hunt title shot ?ain?t gonna happen?
Despite a groundswell of support from fans, UFC president Dana White said Mark Hunt is not a candidate to replace Alistair Overeem in the title bout with Junior dos Santos at UFC 146 if Overeem can't get a license.
"They can keep rallying," White said on Saturday following UFC on FUEL TV 2 at Stockholm's Ericsson Globe Arena. "That ain't going to happen. Listen, Mark Hunt is going to have to fight one of the top guys. You don't just jump right into the title shot."
White mentioned Hunt needs to win against Stefan Struve, his current match-up at UFC 146, plus get past one of the heavyweight division's best to be considered for a title shot. Hunt is currently riding a three-fight win streak, but had lost six fights before that.
After Overeem's chances of getting a license for the May 26 event were called into question by the Nevada Athletic Commission, Hunt's fans took to Twitter and Facebook to lobby White for a spot for the slugger. However, their arguments that Hunt would provide an exciting fight against dos Santos did not sway White.
Now, the UFC has to wait for Overeem to have a hearing with the NAC. White said Overeem deserves to go through due process.
"Everybody gets due process," White said. "Alistair Overeem will have his due process with the Nevada State Athletic Commission. We'll see what happens and we'll go from there. When it all goes down, somebody else will speak about this. Not me."
And much to his fans' dismay, it won't be Hunt fighting dos Santos.

UFC 147 date in question because of United Nations convention
Though the trash talk and training camps for Anderson Silva's title bout with Chael Sonnen are underway, the date of their fight is in question. A United Nations convention set for the same time as UFC 147 in Rio de Janeiro may force the UFC to move from the June 23 date.
UFC president Dana White talked about it after UFC on Fuel 2 on Saturday.
"The problem is, they don't like the idea of us coming the same time this United Nations convention is going on," he said. "The other problem is hotel rooms. Most of the hotel rooms are being taken up. And we don't think, we know that the Anderson Silva-Chael Sonnen fight is one of the biggest sporting events this year, in the world."
A lack of hotel rooms in a city the size of Rio is an ongoing problem. They are building hotels to deal with the upcoming Olympics in 2016 and the World Cup in 2014, but that won't help the UFC this June.
Since the UFC generally plans their events well after conventions of all stripes are set, it's surprising that this snafu would just come up now. Rio+20 has been planned since January 2011. Checking what's going on in a town before booking an event is event-planning 101. That doesn't matter if you're planning a birthday party or a major sporting event.
This isn't the first scheduling problem the UFC has faced this year. In January, they were forced to postpone a planned March event in Montreal because they didn't feel the bouts were good enough for an event of that size. The postponement was the reason for the recently-ended six-week Zuffa drought.

UFC 146 set after Roy Nelson vs. Gabriel Gonzaga added
The UFC 146 dominoes have finally stopped falling, as the all-heavyweight main card is set. Roy Nelson will face Gabriel Gonzaga and Shane Del Rosario will fight Stipe Miocic.
The shake-up started on Friday, when Alistair Overeem withdrew from the title bout with Junior dos Santos after a pre-fight test showed elevated levels of testosterone. Overeem said he wanted time to resolve the issue with the Nevada Athletic Commission, but that left dos Santos without an opponent and UFC 146 without a main event.
Frank Mir stepped into the title fight, Antonio Silva was given the bout with Cain Velasquez, Nelson got Gonzaga, and Miocic, who was not originally on the card, stepped up to fight Del Rosario.

UltimateBall mixes MMA, soccer, rugby, basketball and a dash of awesome
Did you ever watch soccer and think, "This really needs some takedowns?" Or rugby and think, "Why isn't this played in a cage?" Or basketball and think, "An armbar would have been perfect right there?" Good news. The people from Ultimate Challenge MMA came up with Ultimate Ball.
Watch the first minute to get an idea of the newest game that will clearly take the world by storm. Watch the entire video to get a good laugh in as the announcers don't even understand what's going on as they ask, "What's the score?" in the final minute.
UCMMA has big hopes for UltimateBall, as the description on the YouTube video suggests:
In 1993 they said that UFC will never take off, look at it now, UltimateBall is the sport of the future, this isn't just an MMA ad on this is a NEW sport in its own right.
True, but in the 1960s, jai alai organizers thought their sport would be bigger than baseball, but which sport had their big opening day last week? Still, good luck to UCMMA and UltimateBall. Chaos can be fun to watch.

Anheuser-Busch unhappy with remarks made by UFC fighters
The UFC's marquee sponsor is not happy with the actions of some their athletes, and they spoke up about it in Advertising Age. Anheuser-Busch, the parent company of the Bud Light brands that are featured prominently in the Octagon, talked about their displeasure.
"We've communicated to the UFC our displeasure with certain remarks made by some of its fighters, and they have promised to address this. If the incidents continue, we will act," the brewer said in a statement. A-B, which did not elaborate on potential actions, also stated that it "embraces diversity and does not condone insensitive and derogatory comments rooted in ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, etc."
The UFC responded to Ad Age:
"Unlike most other sports leagues, we encourage our athletes to engage online. It is part of our company culture, and whenever you are at the forefront of a trend or initiative, it comes with its own pitfalls. We will continue to embrace social media while looking for better ways to stay in front of the issues. This includes a mandate for our athletes to attend sensitivity training and a seminar on proper use of social media."
The problem is not that the UFC has athletes who say and do stupid things. Every organization -- from a small family-run business to the largest multi-national conglomerates -- has people who do and say stupid things. The problem is with how the UFC has (or hasn't) dealt with the issues.
There is little consistency with how the UFC has dealt with the dumb things said by their athletes. Some, like Miguel Torres, were cut. Some, like Rashad Evans, were rebuked privately. Some, like Quinton Jackson, were ignored.
A comprehensive code of conduct for athletes, including clear examples of crossing the line and fair punishments for such actions, would not just be the fair thing for UFC fighters, but would also prevent them from getting a public rebuke from their biggest sponsor. It's just good business.

Alistair Overeem blames anti-inflammatory medication containing testosterone for elevated T/E ratio, failed test
Hulking heavyweight Alistair Overeem, who lost a shot at the UFC heavyweight title when he failed a March 27 random drug test administered to him by the Nevada Athletic Commission, said in a statement Monday released by his management team that the reason for his failure was medication he was given to treat a rib injury.
Overeem, who had a 14:1 testosterone-to-epitestosterone ratio that was more than twice the legal limit of 6:1 in Nevada, was on Friday pulled from the title fight against champion Junior dos Santos that was to be the main event of UFC 146 on May 26 in Las Vegas by UFC president Dana White and replaced by Frank Mir.
[Related: Frank Mir will now face Junior dos Santos for the heavyweight belt at UFC 146]
The failure was first announced by the Nevada commission on April 4, noting that Overeem's T/E ratio exceeded 10:1. The next day, it announced that the exact number was 14:1.
Overeem had a hearing scheduled in front of the Nevada commission on Tuesday, but White said Saturday after UFC 145, "I'm not too optimistic" that Overeem would get licensed and that the UFC had marketing deadlines it had to meet. He said the UFC couldn't deal with the uncertainty and ultimately pitted Mir against dos Santos.
[Related: Dana White infuriated by Alistair Overeem's positive test]
In his statement, Overeem said in March he was given an anti-inflammatory medication, which he did not identify, that was mixed with testosterone to treat a rib injury.
His elevated T/E ratio was discovered following a surprise test given by the Nevada commission on March 27 to all six of the heavyweights who were participating in a news conference that day. The others -- dos Santos, Mir, Cain Velasquez, Antonio "Big Foot" Silva and Roy Nelson -- all passed the test.
Prior to the UFC 146 press conference in March, I aggravated an old rib injury on my left side. My doctor prescribed, and I accepted, an anti-inflammatory medication that was mixed with testosterone. I was completely unaware that testosterone was one of the ingredients in the medication. Although I was unaware, I do realize it is my job to know what I am putting into my body.
Overeem has fought under a cloud of suspicion for years, though he had never failed a test previously. He used to fight as a light heavyweight at 205 pounds, but moved to heavyweight and bulked his body up tremendously.
In his statement, Overeem vehemently denied using PEDs and supported the commission. His entire statement:
To my friends and fans,
I am deeply saddened to announce that on Friday, April 20, I respectfully withdrew from the May 26 event so that I can request a continuance until my situation with the Nevada State Athletic Commission is resolved.
I cannot express how sorry I am to the Commission, Junior Dos Santos, the fans, the owners and employees of the UFC, my friends and family and anyone else who this has affected.
I absolutely do not believe in, nor do I use performance-enhancing drugs. I am a clean fighter and I will do whatever it takes to prove this to everyone.
I respect the Nevada Commissioners and Executive Director Keith Kizer and what they are doing to keepthe sport of mixed martial arts regulated and safe for athletes. I look forward to working with them in the days and weeks ahead.
Friends and fans, I ask for your patience as I work through this matter. Please support me. I promise to return to the Octagon soon.
There is no date set for Overeem's formal hearing. He is facing no punishment because he did not have a license at the time of the test, but he would have to explain the elevated ratios to the athletic commission when he applies for a license after he's ready to fight again. He can choose not to apply for a license in Nevada again, but he almost certainly wouldn't be able to fight in the state unless and until he met the commission face to face and explained himself, even if he does so elsewhere first.

Olympics are a long-term goal for the newly formed IMMAF, but it?s a steep climb
While in Sweden for UFC on Fuel 2, the UFC announced their backing of the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation, a group that will help MMA grow globally as well as streamline and standardize the sport so it can be included in the Olympics.
"Having an umbrella organization that will oversee and help build the sport on a global level will not only provide advanced and ever-improving safety standards but will also create a unified global model to help introduce the sport to new markets. It is our hope that it will also take us one step closer to witnessing the inclusion of the sport of MMA on the Olympic program," UFC chairman Lorenzo Fertitta said via press release.
But getting a sport included in the Olympics is a difficult, drawn-out, incredibly political process, which was discussed by IMMAF chair August Wallen.
You talk to any athlete and say, 'Would you like to compete in the Olympics?' who would say no? That's something we have to have as a vision down the line, but getting a lot of national federations, starting world championships, applying for SportAccord, that's things we can control. When you're going into the Olympics, you have to compete with other sports that want to go into the Olympics.
To be included in the Olympics, the sport has to think long-term and be ready to make several changes. MMA needs to be accepted by SportAccord, an umbrella group that supports individual sports' governing bodies. Not only does the IMMAF need to prove that MMA is a sport, but they have to show how it corrals MMA's disparate national governing bodies.
Drug-testing requirements
In their application to SportAccord, the IMMAF will have to include a "copy of its constitution/statutes, regulations and directives which must comply with the World Anti Doping Code (incl. detailed statistics on the tests conducted and the number of anti-doping rules violations having led to sanctions)."
Right now, in the U.S. alone, the different states' commissions anti-doping standards are not anywhere near as stringent as that of the World Anti-Doping Alliance. For example, the Nevada Athletic Commission is just trying out out-of-competition drug testing. They used it when all of the heavyweights for UFC 146 happened to be in town for a pre-fight press conference, and they are one of the few states to even try it. It's a good start, but WADA's idea of out-of-competition testing includes sending drug testers out and having them knock on athletes' doors at ungodly hours for drug tests and expensive tests that are beyond the means of most cash-strapped state commissions.
Membership in SportAccord also requires that the sport is truly global. They define that as "at least 40 active Member Federations from at least three continents." A member federation is a national governing body, like USA Wrestling. While MMA is popular enough to easily meet the three continents requirement, 40 national governing bodies is a tough get as the sport stands now. Several countries the UFC visits have no governing body, so the UFC has to act as their own commission by providing judges, referees and running weigh-ins.
SportAccord has many more qualifications including an already existing world championship structure, proof that judges are well-trained and fair, and a long-term strategy which ensures long-term health for the sport.
After SportAccord, the IOC
Once the IMMAF meets all these requirements and gets accepted into SportAccord, it's a whole other uphill battle to get in the Olympics. They need to convince two thirds of the notoriously stodgy International Olympic Committee that MMA is a sport that is worthy of inclusion.
If MMA plans to lobby for the Summer Olympics, where it would make the most sense, it has to hope that another sport is cut. The Summer Games are capped at 28 sports. Golf and rugby were voted into the docket for this summer's Olympics in London and the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Baseball and softball (which were in the Olympics but cut in 2008), karate, squash and roller sports are also trying to make it in the Olympic door.
This is not to say inclusion of MMA in a future Olympics can't happen. Wallen said he would like to see a country with strong MMA ties get the Olympics so that the sport can be included as a demonstration. Istanbul, Turkey; Tokyo, Japan; Baku, Azerbaijan; Doha, Qatar; and Madrid, Spain are bidding for the 2020 Games.
With the IMMAF's founding, the sport is much closer to the goal than it was a year ago as the IMMAF can help MMA's disparate governing bodies move towards standards that will cover the sport from top to bottom.
However, MMA fans should realize that seeing Jon Jones or Jose Aldo win Olympic gold is unlikely. Hope, instead, to see Jones' daughter on the Olympic podium.

Reader Rants: Cagereaders take on the Olympics, Jon Jones/Muhammad Ali comparisons and advice for Rashad Evans
After you had plenty to say about Brock Lesnar, Brock Lesnar and Brock Lesnar last week, Cagereaders were a bit quieter this week. However, you still had plenty of opinions to share. Also, we still are looking for your picks on the UFC 145 main card, so go like the page and tell us who you're picking and why.
MMA fans look at the idea of the sport in the Olympics with a bit of skepticism.
That would be very cool, but the Olympics is very heavy on safety. Probably it would be like combat sambo with the headgear and shin guards, and maybe an elbow pad. -- Gab'bo Hofilea Delgado
I can't see it happening. If all the title holders decided to fight in the Olympics that would mean 3-4 months with no title fights. It's hard to sell PPVs without title fights. -- Kevin Dailey
The UFC made another Jon Jones/Muhammad Ali comparison in a video posted on Cagewriter's Facebook page. Readers felt the comparison was a bit too early in Bones' career.
Purely fighting, okay, the comparison is fine. Young, talented, seemingly unstoppable. But Ali was culturally so much more than a boxer, and I like Jones but I don't see him as a cultural icon forty years after he stops fighting. -- John Wilcox
No offense to Bones, but that comparison doesn't fit as much to me as Ali to Anderson Silva. Same attitude, same long-term domination, not nearly the same cultural impact... but I think Silva would be the closest MMA fighter to compare to Ali. -- Jason Zachary
After hearing advice from Rashad Evans' mother on how to handle Jones, several Cagereaders offered their advice to Evans. Much of it is not very nice.
Fake an injury before the fight cuz jones is going to crush him. -- Doug Martin
The night before the fight, you pull a Tonya Harding! -- William Corral
Use plenty of ice for the swelling and lots of Kleenex to wipe your tears. -- Jimbo Thompson

Antonio Silva to face Cain Velasquez at UFC 146
When Frank Mir was given a title shot at UFC 146 in place of Alistair Overeem, several dominoes started to fall in the UFC heavyweight division. Mir was supposed to face Cain Velasquez in Las Vegas on May 26. Since he's fighting Junior dos Santos, Velasquez will face Antonio "Big Foot" Silva, who will be making his UFC debut after a career in Strikeforce and Elite XC. Roy Nelson, who was supposed to fight Silva, is now opponent-less, but is expected to remain on the card.
Got that?
As it stands now, UFC 146 still has an all-heavyweight main card, but the UFC has to scramble to find an opponent for Nelson for a bout that is just 34 days away. Here are all the main card bouts:
Junior Dos Santos vs. Frank Mir
Antonio Silva vs. Cain Velasquez
Roy Nelson vs. TBA
Shane Del Rosario vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
Mark Hunt vs. Stefan Struve
