Despite losing his last four fights, former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir has not been released from the UFC, according to his manager Malki Kawa. "Yeah, he's still on the roster," Kawa told Mike Chiappetta in a recent interview.
Even though Mir is still in the UFC, he isn't yet in a rush to get back into the cage. Kawa said that the Las Vegas fighter is taking time off following his brutal loss to Alistair Overeem last month at UFC 169.

"He's just taking time off," Kawa went on.
"He's taking a little bit of time and we'll figure out what his next fight is going to be, and what he's going to do next. Right now we haven't come to a conclusion on that time frame yet."
Who do you want to see Mir fight upon his return? Let us know in the comments section.

One can only imagine the jubilation that Johny Hendricks feels now that he's accomplished his goal of becoming the UFC welterweight title. Even so, he hasn't made peace with his controversial decision loss to former champ Georges St-Pierre last fall.
"I'd like to fight Georges again,"Hendricks said at the UFC 171 post-event press conference.
"I think it'd be fun. We had a good match. I think I'm better. I'm going to get stronger."
Hendricks still believes that he can improve on his winning performance Saturday night over Robbie Lawler, however.
"I'm finding out that I need to be a little bit better with my accuracy. I have the power. I know that," Hendricks admitted.
"But I just need to be a little bit more pinpoint where I'm throwing my punches, and hopefully everything comes back around."
Hendricks and Lawler both stood up and survived ungodly punishment through five rounds in the UFC 171 main event. Observers were shocked that they could withstand all those blows for so long and so was Hendricks himself.
"Realistically, I thought we were both going to knock each other out in the first or the second round," Hendricks said.
"I didn't think we were going to go five. Definitely, as hard as he hit me in the third and fourth round, almost anybody else would've been out. For some reason, I have a thick skull. He hit me with some hard shots and I knew I had to come back in the fifth round. "That's where I lost it in the GSP fight and I told myself that it wouldn't happen again."

One might not expect a knockout artist to be so bright and cheery. Yet, the key to Johny Hendricks psychologically getting over a controversial decision loss to Georges St. Pierre last year was the welterweight's positive attitude that is just as much a trademark of his as his wrestling skills or powerful punching.
According to his nutrition coach and former UFC fighter Mike Dolce, Hendricks has a special mindset that doesn't allot him to stay down for too long. As Hendricks heads into another championship fight this Saturday at UFC 171, this time against Robbie Lawler for the vacant welterweight world title, he's doing so with a smile on his face.
"For Johny, [disappointment] lights a fire," Dolce recently told USA Today.
"He's a two-time, division I national champion wrestler. You don't get there without having a different type of mentality. Johny certainly has that so, when he walked out of that Octagon vs. GSP, Johny had his head up the whole time. He was rust rated that he didn't get the gold belt around his waist but in the locker room, in the back, he was cheering up his coaches. Johny was all smiles and high fives. And when we woke up the next day, it felt as if we were waking up after a victory performance."
For his part, Hendricks was shocked that he was able to stay composed and classy after the judges scored the fight for St. Pierre last fall despite the former wrestler appearing to have controlled almost every round with striking and wrestling.
"Man, the good Lord," Hendricks told USA Today in regards to how he kept it together and stayed positive.
"Man, I prayed about it. I think a lot of my fans did, too. Because, realistically, I thought I was going to flip out. I really did. Whenever Joe grabbed that mic to me, man, I thought I was just going to go on a rampage. But something came over me, man. It was just like, 'boom.' Stay calm. You know? It wasn't our moment. And, look, in return, I get to fight here in Dallas...it turned out to be a blessing."
Hendricks takes Lawler on Saturday from his home town of Dallas at UFC 171 on pay per view.

For years, Chael Sonnen has insulted, goaded and poked at former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Now, we know why.
Sonnen was jealous of Silva. According to a recent interview Sonnen gave to Brazilian television show, "Estrelas," the American wrestler envied Silva and that drove him to try and beat the champ.
"I was jealous when I watched Anderson fighting on TV," Sonnen admitted.
"I didn?t think he was the best in the world, and I wanted to fight and beat him."
Of course, Sonnen got his chance twice against Silva, in 2010 and again in 2012, and was stopped each time by "The Spider." These days, Sonnen feels that Silva is a good person but he still wants to fight the injured Brazilian again.
"Anderson is a nice guy and I?ve met his family, but a guy and a fighter are completely different things," Sonnen explained.
"I wish him an amazing life, but I still want to beat him."
Sonnen cited two more Brazilian fighters whom he has no real animus towards but wants to beat them up, nonetheless.
"I also want to fight Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva, and I don?t wish them anything bad," he went on.
Even though Sonnen would like a third shot at Silva, he hopes that the former 185 king retires after having his leg broken in half by Chris Weidman.
"I hope that Anderson retires, there?s nothing for him to achieve anymore and he has money enough for his future generations," Sonnen said.
"I hope he can look back and feel proud of his career and understands that we all see him as a great champion."
For his part, Sonnen may or may not fight Wanderlei Silva, as planned. At last report, the bout has still not been signed.
Sonnen's career may be more fundamentally up in the air because of the recent bans on testosterone replacement therapy. Sonnen once said that he would die without using the treatment and has recently said that he may very well end up retiring because of the bans.

Former boxing champion and rising MMA bantamweight Holly Holm has a fight scheduled April 4 (against Juliana Werner at Legacy FC 30 in New Mexico) but her management was busy this past weekend negotiating to bringing her to the UFC.
?Offers went back and forth,? Holm's manager Lenny Fresquez told MMA Junkie.
?We already had guidelines of what we were going to agree on and what we weren?t going to agree on. We?re still a little ways [apart] and there?s still a couple of items. We?re very excited about getting Holly into the UFC. It?s just my job to put Holly in the right hands.?
Fresquez says that it's his goal to get Holm a title fight against UFC bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey, and to get her paid well for the privilege. The manager also claimed that the UFC is indeed considering former Strikeforce champions Gina Carano and "Cyborg" Justino as possible opponents for Rousey.
?I asked them, ?Who?s Ronda going to fight??? Fresquez went on.
?They said, ?She could fight ?Cyborg? or fight Gina Carano.? Those were the couple of other options that they were looking at. But I also know ?Cyborg? can?t make 135 pounds, and Gina can?t make 135 pounds, so I know those fights can?t be made for the UFC title.?
Who would you rather watch Rousey fight - Carano, "Cyborg" or Holm? Let us know in the comments section.

Dan Henderson may be in his forties and taking more punishment in fights than ever before, but Sunday night's UFC Fight Night hero and main event winner still has UFC gold on his mind. The 43 year old former two-division Pride champion has yet to strap on a UFC belt but, after knocking out Mauricio "Shogun" Rua Sunday night, Henderson said that one more title run is still his goal.
"Yeah, I mean, that's pretty much the last goal of mine and the last thing that I need to achieve in this sport is getting that UFC title," Henderson said (video below).
"I've had other titles but, you know, just that UFC belt still eludes me a little bit. I'm still after it and I still feel like I'm capable of doing that."
Henderson went on to say that he's open to fighting in whatever division (middleweight or light heavyweight) that gives him a better chance at winning a UFC championship. Which division would you most want to see the former Olympic wrestler close his career out in?
And, how much of a factor do you think it will be that Henderson will now no longer be sanctioned to use testosterone replacement therapy (TRT)? Let us know in the comments section.

From a distance, it would seem as if 2013 was a roller-coaster type of year for MMA welterweight Josh Burkman. The 33-year-old capped a five-fight win streak by choking former UFC title challenger Jon Fitch out in June and made the first leap into the top-10 rankings of his decade-long career.
In his next fight, however, Burkman would go on to lose via triangle choke submission to Steve Carl, and lost his chance at the first ever World Series of Fighting (WSOF) 170-pound championship. From a distance, it would seem as though the past year or so for Burkman has been an up-and-down ride of extremes.
However, up close, talking with Burkman while he sits in his Utah home watching his wife and baby son play outside, the fighter?s year and life look a whole lot different and more even-keel. His first-born and wife have left him inside to talk, he jokes, because ?there?s too much testosterone in the room.?
Burkman will try to rebound and win again when he fights Tyler Stinson on Saturday, March 29 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. The tension in himself and his home must be increasing as the fight draws nearer, but still, Burkman seems remarkably at peace.
Things really are not as chaotic for Burkman as one may have guessed, at present.
?No, not really,? Burkman tells Cagewriter when asked if his past year has felt like the roller coaster it looked like from the outside.
?When you say it, it makes a lot of sense. For me what we were talking abouta few minutes ago - being a husband, being a father - those things come before anything in my life,? Burkman explains.
?As soon as my fights are over, win or lose, I go back to being a husband and a father again. That keeps me grounded. Those are my most important jobs. With regards to fighting, the win over Fitch was a high and the loss to Carl was one of the lowest of lows. It definitely created a big let-down. But I think just coming back as a husband and father ? it makes it so that my life doesn?t seem like as much of a roller coaster. After beating Fitch, I got right back into the top-10 but the problem with winning all those fights in a row is that I got complacent. That?s why I have so much respect for those champs who stay at the top against top competition for so long.?
Burkman admires the focus and reliability long-time champs Georges St. Pierre and Anderson Silva showed during their reigns and it?s those elements that the fighter?s family clearly gives his own life. Balancing family with career isn?t a distraction for Josh Burkman.
It?s Burkman?s family that puts his career into focus. ?It?s a lot but it makes it so that I?m very focused on the things I have to do,? he says.
?Everything else goes away.?
Something that not even his beloved family can take away for Burkman, however, is the result of decades of football and fight competition ? serious neck and back injuries. Like many fighters, Burkman trains and fights through serious spinal disc issues.
As a result, he has his good days and his not so good days. Just as his opponent believes was the case for himself, Burkman?s last fight against Steve Carl was not one of his good days.
?Every time I go out and fightit is not necessarily with the best body,? Burkman explains.
?That?s the case for a lot of fighters.I don?t want to take away from the victory of Steve Carl. He deserved that fight. He had his own issues. Unless I go out and fix those things that went wrong, it?s all just talk and excuses anyways.?
Burkman says he?s worked hard to best prepare for Stinson ? an underrated and well-rounded opponent. Burkman sees plenty of challenge in his Saturday night dance partner.
?Obviously, the first thing you think about with him is his height and the distancehe can cover with that length. I?m 5-foot-10 he?s 6-foot-3,? Burkman details.
?He?s a very relaxed fighter yet sometimes he comes out very aggressive. He?ll come out and bang a little bit, too. You?ve got to respect that he?s got power in his hands. He?s a veteran.?
Burkman is quite the veteran himself. At 26-10, overall, he is closing in on 40 career MMA fights. Anything over 20 is rarified air in the sport.
?The People?s Warrior? has his sights set even higher, however. After all these years, and all the wars in the gym and ring, all that Josh Burkman says he wants to do is become as good a fighter as he can. That, and have 50 bouts.
?My main goal for MMA is to get to 50 fights, at this point,? Burkman reveals.
?That gives me three or four more years. With that time, I just want to be able to really look back on my career and say I was good as I could have been. Neck injuries caused problemsbut I can walk away from this sport without any regrets if I give it my all and become as good as I can be. That?s the key.
?When I?m at my best, I can compete with the best.?

New UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks says that he won't call out future opponents, except for...Georges St. Pierre. The former welterweight kingpin won a controversial decision over Hendricks late last year and then took a leave of absence from competition shortly after.
St. Pierre, perhaps weary of hearing his name come out of Hendricks' mouth, recently reacted to his rival's egging him on to come back and rematch him.
"Listen, stick around for a bit and keep the title," Georges St. Pierre said during an interview with MMA Fighting.
"We'll see what's going to happen in the sport. If some things change, maybe we'll get together again."
Lest that chiding be misinterpreted as a tease of a sure and soon-coming return for St. Pierre, GSP went on to clarify that he's happily retired at the moment. "For now, I don't want to do it," he said.
"I needed to step out and stay out of the radar. That's one of the things I said. I didn't know if it was going to be six months, a year, a year and a half, I don't know. But right now, I don't feel like coming back right now. It's not right for me."
St. Pierre detailed a gradual but recent loss of motivation as an explanation for his leave.
"When I fought Carlos Condit, I was really hungry," St. Pierre remembered.
"When I fought Diaz, I was not as much hungry. When I fought Hendricks, my training camp, I was even less hungry, and I felt like I needed to step out to get some time to see if I want to do this or not again."
St. Pierre is not doing a great job of "staying out of the radar" thus far during his leave of absence from competition, but hopefully he's getting well-deserved rest and recovery. Only time will tell if he'll ever regain the hunger to fight again.

Middleweight champion Chris Weidman needs minor surgery on both of his knees to repair a bothersome meniscus, forcing the postponement of his title defense against Lyoto Machida until July 5 in Las Vegas, UFC president Dana White told Yahoo Sports Monday.
The Weidman-Machida fight had been planned as the main event for UFC 173 on May 24 at the MGM Grand Garden. But because of Weidman's knees, it will be pushed back until July at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
White said he and UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta are working on a new main event for May 24, but said he had nothing to announce yet.
"This is something that's been bothering him for a while," White said. "The knee pops out and Lorenzo had told him a while ago to just get it taken care of and be done with it. He didn't do it, and unfortunately, it became more and more of a problem for him."
White said Weidman will need four-to-six weeks to recover from the surgery and said "we're very confident," he'll be healed in time to fight Machida, the former light heavyweight champion, on July 5 in the main event of UFC 175.
White said women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is not an option to replace Weidman in the UFC 173 main event. Rousey has obligations to her movie career planned.
"She would do it if we asked her, but she has a lot of [expletive] going on and I'm not going to ask her to do that," White said. "We'll find a good main event [for UFC 173] without asking her to do that."
Weidman becomes the fourth of the nine UFC champions to be sidelined by surgery, following heavyweight Cain Velasquez, welterweight Johny Hendricks and lightweight Anthony Pettis.

Despite his owning a twenty fight win-streak and going unbeaten since 2005, not many pundits are giving Glover Teixeira much of a chance to dethrone UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones when they face off in Baltimore, April 26th. The Chuck Liddell protege, however, himself feels like the favorite heading into the big bout.
"I have the power to beat him," he recently told Inside MMA (video below).
"I have to believe that my skills will work against his skills."
Glover went on to say that he hasn't spent much effort finding sparring partners who could imitate the rangy and dynamic Jones because, well, the Brazilian simply isn't all that worried about what the champ can do to him. "I don't really worry about him," Teixeira claimed.
"In my mind, man, he has to worry about what I'm going to do to him...I believe that April 26th, I'm going to go over there and knock this guy out."
Do you believe that Teixeira has a shot at beating Jones?

UFC president Dana White could call Ronda Rousey and ask the female bantamweight champion to step in and fill the main event slot vacated for UFC 173 by Chris Weidman. White, though, told Newsday that he’s “not gonna do that to her.” Rousey is currently filming scenes for her role in “Entourage” and has targeted […]

Despite putting on almost eight full rounds of incredible MMA action, Dan Henderson isn’t sure a third encounter with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua is in the cards. Henderson, who finished Rua in Brazil Sunday night at UFC Fight Night 38, also won a decision over the former champion back in 2011. “I don’t know about (a […]

In order to illustrate a point about how his own career could end at any moment, in any fight, Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic recently used former UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva as an example. Silva, of course, had a leg broken in half late last year by Chris Weidman in their UFC 168 title main event.
Silva may be kicking on that injured leg again and recovering well, physically, but "Cro Cop" believes that the psychological damage will be more lasting.
"I heard, thank God, he's recovering, but it'll always leave a scar in his mind," the Croatian kick boxer said.
"He will never be the same fighter. He'll never. I really like and respect and admire him, but I don't think he will ever be 100 percent the old Anderson Silva. It was a terrible injury. He'll always start thinking, what if it happens again? But that's the name of the game. You cannot avoid it. Sometimes it just happens."
Silva himself recently acknowledged the mental challenge of throwing kicks again in an interview with Brazilian outlet UOL. As expected, however, he is more optimistic about his abilities to meet that challenge than "Cro Cop" is.
"Now is the time to overcome the fear and slowly get there," Silva said.
"I have much further to go, but I am confident and happy with the initial results." Have you ever dealt with the psychological effects of a physical injury? Tell us about it in the comments section.

We already knew that UFC president Dana White would love to have former Strikeforce champion Gina Carano fight for the UFC if she were to return to MMA competition for the first time since 2009. Now, we also know that women's bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey is more than willing to take Carano on.
Rumors have flown since UFC commentator Joe Rogan said that big news was going to soon be announced in women's UFC action. Many fans are wondering if that big news could end up being Carano's return to fighting.
Back when she fought, Carano often had trouble making 140 and 145 pounds so it would be unlikely that she could successfully come down to 135 pounds to challenge Rousey for her belt. However, the "Rowdy" made clear to reporters this week that she'd be willing to move up in weight to make a Rousey vs. Carano super fight reality.
?For Gina, there would be exceptions that I would make for Gina that I wouldn?t for anyone else,? Rousey said.
"To fight her would be a real honor. It would be a real milestone for the sport."
Rousey also said that, ideally, she'd like to next fight in late summer, shortly before her movie, Expendables 3 comes out in theaters. However, the Judo Olympic medalist says that she doesn't believe any rumors until contracts are signed, and that she hasn't signed any yet for her next bout.
Who would you pick to win a fight at 140 or 145 between Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano? Let us know in the comments section.
