Randy Couture 'big fan' of new Bellator boss Scott Coker

Retired former two-division UFC champion (and rising blues star) Randy Couture broke ties with the promotion in order to work with Spike TV and their MMA content provider Bellator last year. Other than a starring role on the reality fight series, Fight Master, Couture has had very little involvement with Bellator, however.

Couture next stars, along with fellow former UFC champ Frank Shamrock, in Gym Rescue. Cagewriter recently watched the pilot episode of Gym Rescue, and will have a review feature published here on Friday.

We spoke this week with "The Natural" and asked him his impressions of Bellator's new boss, Scott Coker, and asked if he had plans to be further involved in the promotion in some way. While Couture describes himself as an admirer of the former Strikeforce chief, he said that he has not yet really spoken with Coker since his hiring by Bellator.

"I've not really gotten to speak with [Coker]," Couture said.

"I did see him at the Bellator show in Temecula and at Comic Con where I was to promote The Expendables 3. That Bellator show was only the third Bellator event I'd ever been to and I was pleasantly surprised...They had a nice big ballroom, the show was good and the fights were good."

Couture's fighter son Ryan will make his Bellator debut in September, and the father would seem to approve of the new digs. "I'm excited to see Scott Coker at the helm [of Bellator]," Randy said.

"He seems to be in the process of doing some re-branding, he's already loosening up fight contracts and seems to be looking to form partnerships with fighters to build their brands, allow sponsors and things like that."

Couture went on to say that, though he can't yet say what his own involvement in Bellator might end up being, if any, he does have confidence that the promotion is being led by an able boss. "I'm excited that Scott Coker taking over Bellator. I'm a big fan of his and have a lot of respect for him," he said.

"He's always been a hand shake kinda guy that followed through on what he said he would do. There's no ego, with Scott. He's a genuine fan and life-long marital artist. I think he gets it."
