Joe Lauzon doubts Gray Maynard will try to take him down

UFC lightweight Gray Maynard is one of the division?s top wrestlers as indicated by both his success on the amateur stage and his showings inside the Octagon. However, ?The Bully? is also a talented boxer who isn?t afraid to let leather fly. Though the bulk of Maynard?s wins have involved outpointing his opposition, when it comes to a December duel with Joe Lauzon a finish for one of the two seems likely considering the Massachusetts native?s history of either scoring stoppages or suffering them himself.

Lauzon, who has 22 TKOs/submissions in 22 total wins and only one decision loss, recently spoke about his upcoming scrap with Maynard where he said the showdown would probably be a stand-up affair rather than feature any work on the ground given his own set of skills.

?I really don?t think Gray wants to take me down and sit in my guard. I think I?m a little bit too crafty off of my back, too quick with submissions and sweeps,? said Lauzon in an interview with CagePotato. ?He will probably want to stand and box. It is probably going to be a kickboxing match and, though I?ve got to be careful, I can do well there. I?ve gotta bring it to him.?

The two talented 155ers are scheduled to meet at on December 29 at UFC 155 in Las Vegas. Lauzon will enter the bout coming off an exciting victory over Jamie Varner earlier this month, while Maynard was last seen beating Clay Guida by Split Decision in June.
