Say what you will about the notion of former WWE Superstar Dave Bautista giving MMA a shot, but one label that can?t be attached to the 43-year old is that of a coward. Bautista is poised to make his Mixed Martial Arts debut this weekend at CES: Real Pain where he was originally scheduled to face fellow newcomer Rashid Evans. However, Evans was pulled from the pairing last week due to legal problems.
Rather than back out of the bout based on the lack of preparation time, Bautista has not only agreed to compete at the event but will take on a much tougher adversary in the form of Vince Lucero.
The new match-up was confirmed this morning in a promotional press release.
Bautista Remains Realistic About Where Love of MMA Will Take Him
Lucero holds an overall record of 22-22-1 with twenty stoppages and more than a decade of experience behind him. After an extremely rough patch where Lucero went 0-9-1, the Bellator veteran has picked up wins in his last two tilts.
Bautista has said in the past his interest in fighting has nothing to do with a desire to go any sort of distance in the sport or even make money but rather a means of living out a dream of testing himself in such a capacity.
