Frank Shamrock feels Zuffa is in the process of killing Strikeforce

For the past six years, legendary fighter Frank Shamrock has been attached at the hip with Strikeforce for one reason or another. Shamrock fought under the organization?s banner for the final few years of his career and has been serving as a broadcaster ever since.

However, to hear Shamrock tell the tale, he may not be associated with Strikeforce for much longer because in his opinion the promotion is being suffocated by the actions of its owner, Zuffa. The company has brought a number of Strikeforce stars over to the UFC and has designs on the remaining few as well.

“Strikeforce is alive and it has a great soul. It’s just that they’ve been picking the soul out of it and taking the talent away from it and now it’s a shell. It can definitely be rebuilt. Strikeforce was amazing. The idea of it is still, it still has value. But the way it is being treated, they are plucking all the value out of it,? explained Shamrock in an interview with MMAFighting. ?Showtime, they are in the business of ratings and growing a product and growing their network and the UFC hasn’t been supporting that.?

UFC President Dana White Has Harsh Words for Shamrock

Shamrock continued on to say the recent axing of an event after headliner Gilbert Melendez went down at the last minute due to injury supported his assessment that Strikeforce?s days are numbered. The promotion scrapped the show as a result of broadcaster Showtime refusing to air the lineup based on a lack of starpower.

?I don’t know who loses out except for the fans when they cancel a show like this,? stated Shamrock. ?I think (the cancellation of Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Healy) is a telling example of what’s going to happen in our future. You know, Gilbert’s the star and if we can’t have the star, then Showtime doesn’t want to play.?
